Clitheroe primary school headteacher retires

St. James' Primary School headteacher Mr Adnitt will retire from his position.

Mr Adnitt began teaching in 1974 starting at Thingwall Middle School in Birkenhead.

He arrived at St James in January 1997, the school’s centenary year, after leaving his post of headteacher at St Laurence’s CE Primary School, Chorley, where he had been for six years. It was his sixth school and Mr Adnitt jokingly recalls how he didn’t have grey hair then!

Mr Adnitt told The Clitheroe Advertiser the highlights during his time at St James have included the opening of the school environmental area – St James’ Ecozone – and the great Ofsted and Church School reports in 2012.

Others include singing with the choir at MEN Young Voices, King Georges Hall, Clitheroe’s The Grand, Blackburn Cathedral and all over Clitheroe at various locations and events.

He also listed “working with and knowing so many wonderful children”, “working with dedicated and hard working staff” and “the support of the parents and governors” as the highlights of his career at the Greenacre Street school.

During his retirement, Mr Adnitt plans to continue to carry out church school inspections and make the time to travel.

The school’s curent deputy headteacher Mrs Filder will serve as acting headteacher at St James until January 1st.

After this the school’s newly appointed headteacher, Mrs Fiona Pattinson, will take over the reins.
