Clitheroe homes protesters argue ‘local democracy is pointless’

Protesters argued local democracy is pointless during the angry demonstration that erupted outside Ribble Valley Borough Council Chamber on Tuesday evening.

An hour before the council’s full council meeting more than 100 local residents voiced their frustration at the council’s decision not to contest a developer’s appeal for 345 new homes at Waddow View, having previously refused permission.

One protestor said Ribble Valley Borough Council might as well be closed, as he said it was now obvious local democracy is pointless.

He said the opinions of locally elected representatives were being totally ignored by the Government and that was “totally unacceptable”.
