TIRELESS fund-raiser Bill Honeywell has pedalled his way through the 2,500-mile barrier of his 4,300-mile charity bike challenge.
The Clitheroe estate agent has so far braved all weathers and is now more than six weeks into his epic ride – aiming to finish at the end of July.
Having twice survived cancer, Bill is hoping to raise £20,000 for Cancer Research UK and has so far raised more than £7,000 – a third of his target. Throughout his journey, Bill is keeping an online diary, or “blog” with daily updates on his adventure.
On Day 40, Tuesday (June 21st) he wrote from Canewdon near Rochford: “Today is June 21st, the Summer Solstice, the longest day. Tomorrow, as the nights start to draw in once more, I’ll hopefully cross the Thames at the Tilbury – Gravesend foot ferry, then on to Whitstable, famous for its oysters. I won’t be having any, but I might allow myself a congratulatory beer for getting to the south-east proper, the Garden of England.”
On his blog, Bill also thanked the kindness and hospitality of his well-wishers who have been following him on Twitter and have tried to help his through his journey.
He added: “A local couple from near Colchester, Margaret and Adrian Rose, gave me and my trusty support crew, Tony Spencer and Simon Clarke, a great welcome, a delicious evening meal, comfy beds and a hearty breakfast. And ... lots of food to take with us. The funny thing is I had never met either of them before – Margaret found out about me solely through Twitter and offered to do something to help. So that’s a fine example of the benefit of the new internet revolution!”
