George Boyd has become the latest Clarets player to back award winning Burnley FC in the Community.
The reigning Player of the Year wide comes on board as an ambassador for the Active Clarets programme, which has delivered a wide range of Health and Wellbeing services since April 2015 in a bid to get Burnley and the surrounding boroughs more active.
These activities include:
* Weekly men’s weight management activities
* Healthy Eating Schools Programme – is your local primary school involved?
* Extra Time – weekly activities for over 50’s at Turf Moor
* Free Health Checks – book now for your Turf Moor check up!
* Adult mental health services
* Disability sports provision
And Boyd, who covered more ground than any other Premier League player, during the 2014/15 Premier League season, is delighted to support the charity’s work.
He said: “It’s great to come on board and support the work of Burnley FC in the Community and if I can help encourage people become more active and healthier, then that’s a real positive for us!”
Also in 2016, the Active Clarets programme will start to work alongside the Royal Society of Public Health to train up individuals to become ‘Health Champions.’
Health Champions are people who, with training and support, voluntarily encourage others to become healthier individuals.
This can be done through a range of methods, such as putting up posters in the work-place to arranging a family weekend walk.
The main responsibility of a Health Champion is to communicate key health messages to friends, family, colleagues and the community to help highlight and tackle health-related issues.
The Health Champions course will take place at Turf Moor on 12th, 14th and 19th January 2016, from 6-9pm, and is FREE of charge.
Candidates who complete the course will gain a Level 2 Understanding Health Improvement Award.
The course is open to anyone, so please get in touch!
