Chipping dairy ‘chuffed to bits’ at its best ever wins

The Kitching family and team at Leagram Organic Dairy at Chipping have something very special to celebrate.

Not only did they come away with their best ever wins at the world’s top cheese show, but they also took along their lowest number of cheeses!

Faye Kitching, who runs the dairy with her mum Christine, cheese maker John Holden and staff says they won three gold, two silver, three bronze and three highly commended awards at the International Cheese Awards at Nantwich.

“We entered 37 cheeses, less than normal, yet we had the best results we have ever had,” said Faye. “We are chuffed to bits...we are absolutely overjoyed and hopefully my dad, wherever he is in the spirit world, will be proud of what we have achieved. They are all his recipes.”

Faye’s legendary cheese maker father Bob founded the Leagram dairy in 2000, but sadly passed way in 2013.

Gold wins were awarded for Leagram’s tasty-mature Lancashire, Lancashire Cobble, which is a soft Lancashire and also for what Faye says is their “flagship cheese” their creamy Lancashire, all of which are organic.

Silvers came in for their soft sheep cheese, Ramshackle and for a creamy Lancashire and bronze awards for a creamy Lancashire, crumbly Lancashire and for a hard goats cheese with ‘high commended’ going to a crumbly Lancashire, a Lancashire Cobble and a soft goats cheese called Nannykins.

Faye also paid tribute to John and their staff and said: “We are very proud of our team. Together we have reached higher expectations than we ever thought we could.

“It seems we have done something right.”

Faye’s late father Bob’s ultimate dream to someday bring the art of cheese making back to the village of Chipping, where Lancashire cheese was first sold commercially, was realised with the founding of the dairy.

Faye and Christine continue to run the business following Bob’s traditional methods and Faye also runs the cheese section at Chipping Show, as Bob did.
