A supermarket worker has become an internet sensation after a shopper’s Facebook post about her dedication to duty went viral.

Grandmother-of-10 Sheila Ingham, who works at the Tesco store in Clitheroe, became an overnight celebrity after the post on Facebook by shopper Katei Blezard received more than 4,000 hits.

And no-one was more surprised than Sheila herself who insists she was “just doing her job”.

She said: “I love my job and helping customers is the number one priority, it is just what I do everyday when I go to work.

“And I am part of a team, we all help each other, but it is so lovely to be recognised like this just for doing my job.”

Mum-of-six Katei posted on Facebook how impressed she was with Sheila after she watched her help an elderly customer load her shopping on to the belt before packing it all away and seconds later went to help another customer load and pack their shopping.

Within hours the post had clocked up 4,214 likes.

Katei said: “It made me smile to see Sheila help these customers without any prompting at all and I think it deserves to be recognised.

“Everyday workers are often overlooked but this was fantastic customer service.”

The post prompted an avalanche of complimentary comments about Sheila (60) who has worked at the store since it first opened 27 years ago. Well known locally, Clitheroe born and bred Sheila, who was presented with flowers and chocolates.
