All Saints Primary School at Clayton-le-Moors has come to the rescue of the Women’s Institute after the usual venue for its annual show was no longer available.

The annual Clitheroe Area WI Show, which began in 1968 following the demise of the Clitheroe Agricultural Show, has usual been staged at Edisford Primary School in Clitheroe, but due to unforeseen circumstances this venue was no longer available this year.

On hearing the news, an emergency committee meeting and frantic phone calls followed, with All Saints Primary School on Winckley Road, Clayton le Moors, BB5 5HS, coming up trumps for the 15 local Women’s Institutes that take part in the annual show.

Show committee member Chris Newhouse, said: “Finding somewhere with room for 2,000 exhibits, plus areas for sales, refreshments and parking for visitors and exhibitors was not easy, but the committee representing 15 local Women’s Institutes were determined the show would go on and know the members will work just as hard to set up the event and enter exhibits to the usual high standard.”

There are 55 different classes at the show from flower arranging under the title “Give it a whirl” to the co-operative entry “Street Party”. There are also many crafts plus a new class of book folding.

The show will be held between 10 am and 4-30 pm on Saturday July 30th with members of the public invited to indulge in a little shopping with stalls selling a variety of products.

Refreshments, a raffle and the opportunity to “Have a Go” at Origami will also be available.

The Clitheroe Advertiser and Times Trophy is presented to the child with most points overall in the Children’s section.

Entry is only £2-50 making the show a value for money trip out for all the family.
