Staff at East Lancashire Hospitals NHS Trust have been honoured in an awards ceremony.

The STAR Awards is the Trust’s recognition award scheme and saw 15 winners from across all services rewarded for dedication to their duties.

Kanwa Ekwegh, a Senior Clinical Fellow at Burnley General Hospital for Medicine for Older People, claimed the Rising Star award.

Colleague Chris Clark nominated Kanwa for being an exceptional role model who inspires colleagues, and who has fulfilled her role with great professionalism.

Associate Clinical Director of Obstetrics and Gynaecology at Burnley Fiona Hamer, was named the “Unsung Hero” .

Her nominator said:“If I am half the clinician and surgeon she is by the time I retire, I will consider my career well spent.”

Other winners were: Non-Clinical Worker of the Year: John Jackson, Porter and Bereavement Champion at Royal Blackburn.

Outstanding Achievement Award: Mohamed Karmali and Yousuf Nagdee, Haemotology Biomedical Scientists at Royal Blackburn.

Quality, Innovation and Research Award: Shahid Islam and Urology Team at Royal Blackburn.
