A new plan for a crematorium and funeral chapel at Whalley is to go before planners.

The plan for Ribble Valley Remembrance Park, at the former Calderstones Hospital cemetery off Mitton Road, has been submitted by a company called The Shrine Lancashire.

A similar plan was approved by Ribble Valley Council six years ago, but the project did not go ahead.

The new application includes a building in traditional stonework, to be used as a crematorium and funeral chapel, with 39-space car park.

The former hospital cemetery and adjoining Commonwealth War Graves cemetery will be unaffected.

After consultations, an ecology survey by Bowland Ecology has warned that work would have to stop temporarily if bats were likely to be disturbed in two derelict chapels.

United Utilities raised no objections, subject to suitable drainage work. Residents in Mitton Road have been consulted.
