Multi-award winning Stirk House Hotel in Gisburn has successfully achieved another accolade, the Gold standard Green Tourism Award from the Green Tourism Programme.

This is an outstanding achievement for an entry level business to the scheme and a credit to everyone at the hotel, but especially its “Green Champion” and Head Chef, Chris Dobson.

His commitment to ensuring the hotel can become as environmentally sustainable as possible was highlighted when the assessor reported “There is an extremely strong focus on local, seasonal produce and this is reflected in the menu, which changes on a daily basis.

“This ethos carries onto the breakfast table too and the hotel offers an exemplary range of hot and cold items for guests to choose from. There are strong links with the Forest of Bowland Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) and the hotel benefits from an electric car charging point and a Tramper.

“The green message is clearly promoted to guests within the literature in the bedrooms and within the reception area. There are plenty of opportunities for walking, cycling and nature spotting in the local vicinity.”

Chris Dobson commented: “Considering such difficulties as heating and lighting an old building sustainably, the gold award speaks volumes for all the positive work and effort that has been done thus far and indeed continues to be carried out within the hotel.

“Our commitment to being a green tourism business will continue now and in years to come.”
