Ribble Valley’s Conservative MP Nigel Evans has welcomed the measures announced by the Chancellor, George Osborne, in his Budget statement.
Speaking from Westminster the day after the budget, Mr Evans said: “This Government inherited the largest peacetime deficit in our history and an economy which had been broken, with high unemployment and no growth.
“The difficult decisions taken since 2010 are paying off and Britain now has the fastest growing major economy in the world.
In the Budget yesterday the Chancellor announced another rise in the personal allowance, to £11,000, which amounts to a tax-cut for millions of people and must be welcomed. Pensioners have also been helped by allowing them to turn annuities into lump sums.
“The Chancellor also announced that Beer Duty will be cut by 1p, another great boost for the beer and pub industry. This is a Budget that will help people in the Ribble Valley.”
