Construction materials company Hanson has launched a new apprentice scheme to train and develop its next generation of supervisors and managers.

The company, which runs Clitheroe’s former Castle Cement site as part of its UK business, has launched a Leadership Education and Development (LEAD) programme, run in partnership with the University of Derby.

It combines two years’ on-the-job training with study for a Certificate of Higher Education, after which participants can progress to jobs as trainee managers or supervisors. Placements will be at nine locations including the Clitheroe site and will start in September this year.

“It’s important that we look to the future and start to fill the gap that is inevitably created as we all get older,” said Hanson’s learning and development manager Karen Wright.

“We will be looking to take people straight from school and support them through a clearly defined progression plan.”
