The men of Clitheroe are showing how tough they are by signing up for a sponsored male waxing this Saturday.

They are now preparing to wax on and wax off between 9a.m. and 4p.m. at the Bonita Beauty Salon in King Street, where they will undergo a variety of waxing treatments depending on their pain threshold, to raise money for Rosemere Cancer Foundation.

The idea came from salon owner Becky Stephenson, whose uncle Ron Montgomery, from Blackburn, was a patient on the Ribblesdale Ward at Royal Preston Hospital and died earlier this year.

Inspired by the care her uncle and the family had received, Becky decided to organise a fund-raising event with a difference.

Becky said: “It’s fantastic that the men of Clitheroe have shown their mettle by signing up for the waxing challenge. As well as raising money for Rosemere, I think this will give them a great insight into what their wives and girlfriends go through to keep looking good!”

For any blokes who think they can take on the challenge, there are still a couple of places left. All they have to do is contact Becky on 01200 428066 or and they can secure their place. Donations can also be made to Becky, without the pain.

Local bakery Apricot Meringue has donated cupcakes which will be on sale in the salon to raise more funds for the charity.

Dan Hill, East Lancs fund-raising Coordinator at Rosemere Cancer Foundation, said: “Becky has come up with a really original idea and we’re delighted that so many men are taking part.”

“All funds raised on the day will go to support local people in the fight against cancer, so the pain these guys will go through is in aid of a very worthy cause.”
