Business rates discount to boost business in Pendle

It’s in response to the Government’s announcement of help for retail properties and includes outlets such as hairdressers, cafes, pubs and clubs.

Eligible businesses that move into retail premises between April 1st, 2014 and March 31st, 2016, which have been empty for at least one year, will be given a 50% discount for 18 months.

And most occupied retail premises with a rateable value of £50,000 or less will be given a discount of up to £1,000 for two years.

Some types of uses are not eligible for these discounts, including the provision of financial services, medical services, professional services and other services such as estate agents, letting agents and insurance agents.

Coun. Linda Crossley, who oversees the council’s finances, said: “We’re really pleased to be able to offer this help to our local businesses.

“Retailers including restaurants, pubs and clubs, opticians and charity shops could take advantage of these discounts.

“And hopefully it will encourage take-up of our empty premises – helping to build thriving towns across Pendle!”
