Nearby residents are being asked to stay indoors and keep windows and doors closed due to thick smoke in the area.
A spokesman for Lancashire Fire and Rescue tweeted: "We have six fire engines dealing with a fire involving a detached garage and a bungalow at a house on Hillsborough Avenue, Brierfield. There is a lot of smoke in the area and if you can see it or smell it, please go inside and close windows and doors."

Hide AdIn a further tweet, he added: "We are working with partner agencies to bring the fire under control.@ElectricityNW. We will be switching off the electricity in the area shortly but we will work as quickly as we can so it can be turned on as soon as possible."
