Bowland High School headteacher Mr John Tarbox praised this year’s students success in the face of the new GCSE grading system being introduced.
He said: “We are really proud of the achievements of all of the pupils. There was some anxiety waiting for these results, given the new ‘tougher’ English and maths GCSEs, but pupils have done extremely well in these, and other subjects.
“Comparisons with previous years are very difficult and not meaningful. However, at Bowland, the proportion of pupils securing the new standard pass in both English and maths is higher than it has ever been for pupils securing C grades or above in both of these subjects for any previous year. This at least provides some reassurance at this early stage.
“There has been additional pressure on pupils and teachers this year and these results are testament to the outstanding efforts of everyone involved. We wish everybody leaving Bowland this year continued success on their chosen courses and beyond, and thank them for their contribution to our school during their time here.”
