The inclement weather has not halted the preparation for a sponsored 81-mile walk along the Dales Way for Grindleton resident Marcia Morris.
A former feature writer for the Clitheroe Advertiser and Times, working in the Clitheroe office for more than 30 years, Marcia is raising funds for the Rosemere Cancer Foundation based at the Royal Preston Hospital.
Marcia said: “Following my diagnosis of breast cancer in 2013 and again in 2016, I received wonderful support and care at the Rosemere Cancer Centre and I wish to give something back to this worthwhile charity. It is the region’s specialist centre for cancer treatment and provides facilities for thousands of local patients. I have been amazed at the many generous donations already received from family and friends on the Just Giving page and for promises made to this fund-raising effort.”
Last September Marcia lost her elder brother, Fred, who had previously completed the Dales Way walk with his son James. This was another inspiration to complete the walk.
Originally hoping to raise £1,000 the donations have already exceeded expectations and she now hopes to reach £2,000.
The walk along the Dales Way begins in Ilkley and finishes in Bowness-on-Windermere. Training has involved five to 12 mile walks locally, due to the wet weather mainly along country lanes, from Grindleton, Waddington, Mitton, Whalley and back home or Sawley, Bolton-by-Bowland, Holden, Lane Ends and Grindleton. Marcia, who will be accompanied by her husband, Vic, is allowing six days to complete the walk. To donate “Just giving.com search marcia morris Dales Way”
