A RECENTLY unearthed family protrait will add an extra sparkle to Mrs Eileen Kenyon’s 104th birthday celebrations on June 6th.
A resident of the Manor House nursing and residential home, In Chatburn, Mrs Kenyon vividly remembers visiting the photographic studio in Clitheroe with her whole family to have the picture taken in 1914, just before the outbreak of the First World War, which took her father to the battlefields of Europe.
Asked the secret of her remarkable longevity, Mrs Kenyon replied: “Clean living and being surrounded by loving family, friends and carers.
“I’m suffering general wear and tear but then what should I expect at my age?” she asked with a wry smile.
Born in Alderely Edge, Cheshire, but a resident of the Ribble Valley for much of her extraordinary life, Mrs Kenyon was just six years old when the photo was taken and can be seen second from the right.
