More than 40 members attended the 42nd Annual General Meeting of the Clitheroe and District Probus Club.
All the retiring officers presented reports which amply demonstrated a very active club which had been entertained throughout the year by speakers presenting talks on a wide variety of topics. These included very diverse subjects such as “Shire Horses”; “a history of Fisherman’s Friends”; “Strange Times in Medieval England”;
“Trains, Planes and Aircraft Carriers” and “The Nazi Occupation of the Channel Islands”.
In addition to the regular branch meetings on the first and third Friday of each month, members had also enjoyed a social programme which included a Summer Luncheon at Mytton Fold Hotel, Langho, and a Christmas Luncheon at The New Drop Hotel.
The programme of speakers for the coming Spring/Summer session is completely filled and members can look forward to yet more varied and interesting meetings and the Summer luncheon is already booked to take place on July 6th. The possibility of a continental holiday is also under consideration for 2013.
Unlike many organisations which are experiencing difficulty in finding people to undertake office, the secretary was pleased to announce a full list of nominations for election to the various officerships of the club and the committee – a sure sign of a healthy club.
Officers elected for the coming year were Chairman Mr Raymond Halfpenney; Deputy Chairman Mr David Sleight; Secretary Mr Alan Daniels and Treasurer Mr Jeff Baldwin.
The next meeting of the club will be held on April 6th when photographer Gordon Bartley will present an illustrated lecture entitled “Same Country – Different World”. For any further details about the club contact Alan Daniels on 01200 429207 or e-mail: email@example.com
