MOTORISTS are beign given advance warning that the centre of Whalley will be closed to traffic on Thursday, December 1st, for the village’s annual Christmas extravaganza.
King Street in Whalley will close between Station Road and Accrington Road from 5-30 p.m. to 9 p.m. for the annual Pickwick Night. Traffic approaching Whalley from the bypass will be diverted into the village via Wiswell Lane.
Only accident and emergency vehicles will have access to the centre of the village during these hours. Bus routes through the centre of the village will also be affected.
A park-and-walk scheme will be available at the Sidings Car Park in Station Road, accessible from Clitheroe, Longridge and Wiswell Lane. A park-and-ride scheme will be available at the Foxfields Hotel, Langho, accessible from the A59 and Blackburn.
Ribble Valley Borough Council’s Chief Executive, Marshal Scott, said: “The road closure has been implemented in Whalley during Pickwick Night for the last few years. It has worked well and as a result the council at the request of organisers and the police has made a similar order for this year’s event.
“It is appreciated that the arrangements may cause some inconvenience, but the safety of residents and visitors is of paramount importance. We are requesting everyone’s co-operation, so that the event can be enjoyed in a safe and relaxed atmosphere.”
