Proud parents Helen and John Ward watched their daughter celebrate her wedding in same spot where they had tied the knot exactly 31 years earlier.
From St Mary’s Church in Goosnargh, the second generation wedding party headed to Gibbon Bridge Hotel in Chipping.
for the romantic rendezvous which saw daughter Fiona celebrate her own marriage to sweetheart Nick Street.
Three decades earlier – when Fiona’s folks were wed – the bridal bandstand hadn’t been built so they celebrated in a specially erected marquee that had been located in the very same part of the 23-acre grounds.
Despite being held more than 30 years apart, four members of staff, including hotel owner Janet Simpson, were on duty at both mother and daughter’s special days.
Janet said: “It was wonderful to welcome two generations of the same family and share such a memorable day with them.
“The hotel and grounds have changed considerably since Fiona’s parents celebrated here more than 30 years ago.
“In those days we could only accommodate 74 wedding guests in the main building and had six guest bedrooms.
“Today we can accommodate almost 200 diners in the conservatory alone, with accommodation for up to 60 guests, including our beautiful bridal suite.”
Helen told the Clitheroe Advertiser and Times that she was “delighted” that her daughter Fiona chose to celebrate at the same venue where she and her husband had done 30 years earlier.
She commented: “We secretly hoped that Fiona and Nick would choose the Gibbon Bridge because it holds such special memories for us, but we didn’t want to influence them in any way.
“After they visited other hotel wedding venues Fiona told us they had decided to choose the Gibbon Bridge as the perfect venue, just as her dad and I did 30 years ago.”
Photographs from the second generation wedding and others will be on display at the hotel’s Wedding Open Day on Sunday January 3rd.
