Gawthorpe Hall to be star of ‘Flog It’

GAWTHORPE Hall will be the star of “Flog It” on Tuesday.

The popular afternoon antiques show features Gawthorpe when presenter Paul Martin discovers it as a surprising gem.

It was the first time that the antiques expert had been to Gawthorpe, and he was particularly taken with the 17th century furniture such as the court cupboards in the Long Gallery.

The show will be broadcast at 3-45 p.m., on BBC2.

Said Gawthorpe’s assistant keeper Rachel Pollitt: “Paul Martin enjoyed filming here, and said it was really beautiful and a surprise to come across such a fantastic historic house on the edge of what is known as industrial Lancashire.”

The programme was recorded in October, with antique valuation part of the show filmed earlier in Rossendale.

Added Rachel: “The crew spent almost all the day filming in most of the rooms of the Hall. It’s amazing how many hours of footage are shot just for a few minutes of air time, and how many times Paul Martin had to redo his lines because he’d fluffed them – but it will all look slick in the final edit.

“When filming in historic houses it is very important to make sure that nothing is accidentally damaged by all of the bulky equipment that is brought in, but this crew were really careful when moving equipment around the Hall. They even used tennis balls to cover the feet of the tripods to ensure that the polished oak floors didn’t get scratched.”
