Almost 2,000 people have said they will be attending a free barbecue and family fun event in Clitheroe Castle grounds this Saturday.

The response came after an invitation was sent out on the social networking site Facebook for the event which will be staged for three hours from 12 noon to 3 pm.

Three legged races and tug of war, gyroscope and gladiators, face painting and craft making are just some of the activities that are going to be taking place on Clitheroe Castle field.

As well as these and other activities there is a delicious free barbecue and fun challenges for people to get involved in.

This is the sixth year Clitheroe Christians in Partnership have hosted this free event for the whole town.

Last year more than 500 people were served a free hot dog or burger and this year the event will be bigger with activities including a football cage, coconut shy and bouncy castle being added.

Rev. Mark Pickett, Rector of St James’ Clitheroe said; “This event is for everyone, an opportunity to serve our community for free.

“We have called it ‘Love Clitheroe’ because that is what we are trying to do.

“The emphasis is on fun so come along and enjoy yourselves.”

Information will also be provided about the ways the host of different churches serve the town. Prayer for healing will also be available at the fun day.

A spokesperson for Clitheroe Christian’s in Partnership added: “It is going to be great day as we Christians get out of our churches and serve our town.”
