CLITHEROE Lions have celebrated two very special events marking the club’s 30th anniversary.
At a dinner held at the Spread Eagle, Sawley, the new president was installed and the club’s annual Geoffrey Braithwaite Memorial Award was presented.
Mr Gordon Smith has taken over as the new president and he received his chain of office from his predecessor Mr Brian Cushing who thanked members for their support druring what has been a busy and successful year.
This is the second time Mr Smith has been president, serving his first term in 2001.
This year’s recipient of the Geoffrey Braithwaite Award was poignantly presented to the late charter member’s son, Terry Braithwaite. The award was given for Terry’s great contribution to local sport, particularly as youth coach at Ribblesdale Cricket Club and manager of Rimington Football Club during the club’s most successful period in its history. Mr Cushing presented Terry with a certificate of appreciation and a cheque for £250 which will be shared by the sports clubs he is so devoted to.
