Laneshaw Bridge Primary School has received an ‘outstanding’ Ofsted report, showcasing the exceptional standards of education and wellbeing it offers to its pupils.

Celebrated for its efforts, the school is known for nurturing the values of ambition, respect and collaboration in its students.

Unwavering ambition and impeccable behaviour

The report highlights the school’s unwavering ambition for all of its pupils, ensuring they excel across a diverse range of learning opportunities. Many have performed exceptionally well across the curriculum, including those with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND).

One of the school’s stand-out features is the high standard of behaviour expected from students. It was evident during the inspection that this work begins as soon as pupils start in Reception class, and are ably supported by the school’s nurturing staff. Older pupils serve as exemplary role models for their younger peers, resulting in impeccable behaviour across the school.

The inspection emphasised the happiness of pupils at Laneshaw Bridge Primary School. Students appreciate that their thoughts and opinions are not only heard but acted upon by the school, fostering a strong sense of trust that staff will promptly address any concerns raised by pupils.

Pupils’ happiness at the school is attributed to the wide array of leadership opportunities they encounter, spanning from caring for school chickens to actively participating in the well-established school parliament. These experiences cultivate a deep sense of responsibility and leadership skills, empowering students to understand how they can contribute to the greater good and enhance their overall development.

Ambitious curriculum empowers all students

A significant strength highlighted in the report is the school’s ambitious curriculum, which has garnered praise for its ability to empower all students, including those with SEND, to excel.

Pupils benefit from a wide range of opportunities that enhance their personal development, including learning about healthy relationships and experiencing activities that bring British values to life.

Leadership at all levels, both within the school and The Pennine Trust, is marked by expertise. This expertise is channelled into providing high-quality training for teachers, ensuring they can teach the curriculum with skill.

Headteacher Gaynor Canty said: “The success of the inspection is a testament to the strength and unity of our school and trust community. Pupils, parents, teachers, staff, and volunteers have all contributed to fostering an environment that highlights the excellence and commitment within our school.

“This achievement is also a clear demonstration of the ambition we hold for all of our pupils, and the exceptional behaviour expected from them. As a school we believe that every child deserves the opportunity to excel, and are dedicated to providing a nurturing environment where their voices are not just heard but valued.

“As we celebrate this success we look forward to a future of continued growth, learning and excellence.”

The Pennine Trust Chief Executive Officer John Tarbox said: “This report and Ofsted's judgement is reflective of a school community where the child comes first and where the staff go the extra mile to provide an exceptional experience. Laneshaw Bridge is an excellent school and I know Gaynor Canty and her team will continue to work collaboratively to raise standards even further.”

Laneshaw Bridge Primary School’s Ofsted report highlights not only its exceptional educational standards and commitment to pupils, but the school’s dedication to values, high expectations and a rich curriculum has created an environment where pupils thrive and succeed.
