The Apprentice star gives tips for success to budding Burnley business moguls of the future

A TV star, who was one of the finalists in the smash hit show The Apprentice, came to Burnley to pass on some top tips to aspiring young people.

Adam Corbally was one of the guest lecturers at the careers week held at Burnley College Sixth Form Centre.

Along with passing on some advice for future success, Adam also acted as one of the judges in a fashion show staged by the students who modelled their perfect interview outfits.

Adam said: “It was great to visit Burnley College Sixth Form Centre and take part in the busy careers week.

"There were some amazing activities to help students focus on their strengths and achieve their ambitions and they were full of enthusiasm and were really excited about their futures –

whether that was university or a great career.

"They’re aiming high and have big plans for future success, which is really encouraging and testament to the support they receive at Burnley College Sixth Form Centre.

"I’ve no doubt that they’ll make a huge impact in whatever they choose to do in future.”

During the action packed week of activities students were given the tools to make their dreams of university study and exciting careers become a reality through a series of seminars, careers roadshows, interactive fun events and brain storming sessions.

Student services staff led a series of seminars on how to create the perfect CV, UCAS applications, employability, student finance, apprenticeships and presentation skills with a bespoke session on the advantages of volunteering and gap year opportunities.

Students were invited to step into a Crystal Maze to identify and collect the skills needed for a successful career; charities showcased local volunteering opportunities and an employer Question Time session saw students quiz a panel of recruitment specialists drawn from local businesses on what makes a job candidate stand out from the crowd.

Guest lecturer Martin Rothwell, who is an expert in virtual reality and artificial intelligence, spoke about the impact of emerging technologies on all disciplines and sectors in the fiuture.

Angela Donovan, Assistant Principal – Curriculum and Quality at Burnley College Sixth Form Centre, said: “Burnley College Sixth Form Centre ensures students are fully prepared for progression to degree study at some of the UK’s top universities, as well as successful careers in their chosen sectors.
