However, in a Facebook post earlier this week, proprietor Carol announced the closure news: She said: "Dear customers and friends of The Scarlett Tearooms, it is with the greatest sadness that I announce I have taken the decision to permanently close the tearoom. Firstly, I would like to thank you for your custom and friendship. We have enjoyed a wonderful three years and 9 months baking, making and hosting a list of amazing events from wedding reception, birthday celebrations from 1 to 90 years, anniversaries right up to a very special 70th wedding anniversary, baby showers, hen parties, Christenings, funeral teas and all the seasonal and festive events included. None of this would have been possible without you, our wonderful customers. The team is heartbroken, and it is so sad packing away what was a lovely little place to work. We close our door with fond memories of fun, laughter and learning. "Secondly, the other half of our success was a terrific team, all of whom had a role in creating a welcoming environment with lots of home made cakes. None of this would have been possible without the enormous support of my family, especially my sister and brother-in-law. If anyone has purchased a gift voucher from January 2020 which has not yet been redeemed please contact me via Facebook. Once again, thank you for your support, keep safe and take care."

The news has been met with a lot of sadness from customers who took to Facebook to express their disappointment. One wrote: "So sad to hear, you were part of the community and we enjoyed many good times with family and friends at the Scarlett tea rooms." While another wrote: "Oh no what sad news. The tea rooms, the lovely staff and you personally (Carol) will be missed."
