The first few weeks' trading at the redeveloped Primrose Garage site in Whalley Road have been very busy and encouraging for its owners, the Kay Group, who invested heavily in the site.

It now has a Texaco filling station, a large Londis convenience store and a Subway fast food outlet, all reporting good business.

An aggressive fuel pricing policy, including a customer loyalty scheme, has seen fuel prices among the lowest in the UK in an area which in the past has been criticised for its high prices, say its owners.

The Subway store has also proved a popular addition, while sales continue to grow at the Londis store, both from passing trade and residents.

Ken Kay, of the Kay Group, said: "Trading has generally been buoyant and above expectation, and so many of the customers have gone out of their way to thank us for bringing competitive fuel pricing to Clitheroe.

"They are also thrilled with the new Subway, which really struggled to cope with the amount of business in its first week of operation."
