YOUNG football enthusiasts are invited to take part in a free five-a-side tournament at the Clitheroe Castle Field on Monday.
The event is open to under-13s and under-16s boys and girls teams. It has been organised by Ribble Valley Borough Council, in conjunction with the Lancashire Young People's Service, and sponsored by Ribble Valley Homes.
It starts at 4 p.m. and squads of seven are invited to take part.
Organisers are keen that enough girls register to make up two teams as
junior football rules mean a girls' team can only play against other girls, not boys, so unless at least 14 girls register, those that do won't get a game.
Trophies and medals will be up for grabs by the winners, and spectators are welcome.
The tournament is one of several events organised by the council for youngsters over the summer.
Courses in cricket, tennis, netball, athletics and football, as well a series of Olympic Fridays, will take place at venues throughout the borough. There will also be sessions in unusual sports, such as circus skills, caving, archery and trampolining.
Meanwhile, the Platform Gallery in Clitheroe will host craft sessions, including making windmills, wooden spoon puppets and ceramic heads, while Longridge Youth and Community Centre will host sessions in world dance, mime and graffiti art.
To register for the football tournament, phone sports development officer Peter Fletcher on 01200 414435.
Other summer activities are detailed in a 16-page "Kids Get Active" booklet from the Ribble Valley Borough Council Offices, Longridge Sports Centre and online at
