SPRING has sprung and one Lancashire countryside haven is inviting people to enjoy some time in the great outdoors.
Spring Wood near Whalley is in the heart of the Ribble Valley and offers a range of countryside activities from picnicking to gentle walks in the woodland and strenuous walks onto Pendle Hill and the surrounding countryside.

The Friends of Spring Wood will hold an open day on May 3rd to allow visitors to enjoy time in beautiful surroundings and find out more about the work of volunteers all year round to keep the woodland in tip-top condition.

Joyce Catterall, chairman of the Friends of Spring Wood, explained: "Spring Wood is open all year round, but by coming along to the open day you will be able to find out a little more about what goes into looking after this important woodland. There will be a chance to learn new skills and we will be telling visitors more about the local wildlife, our Tramper accessibility vehicles and there will be guided walks around Spring Wood.

"As well as the activities we will also be pleased to meet anyone who would like to become a member of our group and volunteer to spend time with us maintaining and improving the woodland."
