RAGAMUFFINS fans are in for a treat on Saturday, August 23rd, when the up-and-coming band headlines a charity gig at Clitheroe's state-of-the-art new venue, The Grand.
The local indie-pop band has built up a strong following in East Lancashire and Merseyside, where they will play another prestigious gig the following day (August 24th) at The Carling Academy, Liverpool.
The concert at The Grand – the multi-million pound music and arts centre in York Street – will raise money for the Cystic Fibrosis Trust.
Also on the bill are Nomad Jones, who made his debut at this year's Glastonbury Festival, and Alex Johnson, who has signed to Kerbstone Records, Manchester, despite still being at school in Clitheroe!
Ragamuffins guitarist and singer David Jaggs said: "One of our closest mutual friends, Sophie Longton, has suffered from Cystic Fibrosis since birth and through sheer determination and strength of character has not let such a dehabilitating illness defeat her.
"She has raised money herself for the Cystic Fibrosis Trust through sponsored runs and managed to impose her infectious smile and personality on everyone she meets. It's hard not to be inspired by the efforts of CF sufferers like Sophie and they are really the reason for us organising this event.
"We're hoping for a complete sell out at The Grand so we can raise upwards of our target of £1,500 for the Cystic Fibrosis Trust. We've also got a host of raffle prizes donated by regional and national businesses that we're sure people will want to get their hands on!"
Tickets cost £5 and are available from The Grand, either at the venue or by phoning 0871 424 4444, or online at
