MEMBERS and guests of Clitheroe University of the Third Age listened to a talk by Prof. Tony Pickering.
A graduate of Guys University Medical School, he worked as a physician at Wythenshawe Hospital, Manchester, before his retirement, with a specialist interest in lung disease. He still has an interest in this field and works at the North West Lung Centre.

His talk was on the history of the Manchester textile industry and its relationship with the lung disease Byssinosis, caused by the inhalation of textile dust.

Thanks were expressed by Dr Keith Tuxford.

The next meeting is on Tuesday, September 9th, when the U3A is holding an open day from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. in Trinity Methodist Church Hall with displays and demonstrations and a chance to find out more about the groups and activities organised in Clitheroe.
