Calling all would-be women firefighters
AN open day to attract more women firefighters takes place on Friday.
There will be a session from 10 a.m. to noon and a further session from 1 to 3 p.m. at the event, at the Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service's Training Centre in Southport Road, Euxton, Chorley (PR7 6DH).
There are currently 26 women out of a complement of 1,298 firefighters in Lancashire - just 2% of the total.
On the day firefighters – many of them women – will demonstrate a range of firefighting and rescue scenarios, including putting out fires in industrial and domestic settings and releasing people trapped in vehicles. It offers an ideal opportunity for women to see and chat with other women already doing the job.
Anyone interested in attending must telephone 01772 866845 to register and can ring that number even if they cannot make the open day to be informed of future events.
