Steve Knightley, best known as the songwriting force behind popular folk/roots duo Show of Hands, will perform in the Ribble Valley this June as he embarks on his mammoth solo tour.

Steve’s “Grow Your Own Gig” tour will find him in out-of-the-way locations from Cornwall to the Scottish Borders as he returns to the rural roots of his music.

His group, Show of Hands, have been described by no less than Peter Gabriel as “one of the great English bands.” Yet in 2014 singer-songwriter Steve will be taking a break from city theatres and major concert stages in order to bring his songs to village halls and community venues throughout the land.

“Having written so many songs over the years about people who live and work in the countryside and the day-to-day issues they face, it will be great to actually perform them in their spiritual homes,” commented Steve.

Recent converts to his music include BBC rural affairs corespondent Tom Heap, who said Steve’s anthem “Country Life” said “more in three minutes than I could in a 45-minute programme!”.

Jeremy Vine, Andrew Marr, Simon Mayo and historian Michael Wood have also recently featured his cutting edge songs on their shows.

With numerous BBC Folk awards and four sell-out appearances at the Royal Albert Hall, Steve says he is looking forward to getting up close and personal with a whole new audience.

“Village halls and community venues attract a unique audience, making it as much a social occasion as a musical event. I can’t wait to start!”

Steve will be playing at Langho and Billington Community Centre on Friday June 20th. Doors open at 7-15 pm and tickets, priced at £16, are available from or 07724118575.

The venue is not licensed to sell alcohol, so is operating a bring your own policy. More details about Steve Knightley and his forthcoming tour can be found at
