It’s the start of another year for Clitheroe Parish Church Amateur Operatic and Dramatic Society, so enrolment night and the first rehearsal for “Hello Dolly” are approaching fast.
As well as welcoming back all of its existing members, the society is keen to encourage any would-be actors, singers and dancers who might like to join this happy band.
The society’s chairman, Brian Haworth, stressed: “There’s no need to be nervous, just turn up and meet us on Tuesday August 30th at 7-30 p.m. in the St Mary’s Centre, Church Street, Clitheroe.
“We are also looking for artists and DIY enthusiasts who would like to create scenery and backcloths for our productions to come along and enjoy being part of a great tradition of amateur theatre in Clitheroe.
“It’s not just about performers – amateur theatre needs keen helpers in all departments, backstage and front of house. Whether you’re making or moving scenery or brewing up for the cast and crew, you are just as important and as much a part of a great team as anyone on stage.”
The society’s next show is an October production of “Post Horn Gallop”, by Derek Benfield, while its next big mucsical production is “Hello Dolly” in February next year. It requires a number of backcloths and scenery pieces to be created so anyone who can help is urged to go along on August 30th. If you can’t make it then or want to know more about the society, visit its website at www.thopera.co.uk or call the society’s secretary Lesley Haworth on 01254 248679.
