A SERIES of popular Chatburn Music Events established to raise money for a replacement organ at Christ Church Chatburn have succeeded in achieving that goal in just 12 months.
Organiser Clive Greenwood commented: “This is a remarkable achievement, and one that exceeds everyone’s expectations.
“We are currently assessing a number of organs with a view to purchasing a replacement in the near future. Canon Rodney Nicholson and members of the PCC are most grateful to all who have made donations and attended the music events.
“It is most fitting that The Grand Choir will be joining us in performance to celebrate this, as they gave the very first concert in this series just 12 months ago. It is planned for the music events to continue due to their popular appeal, and for some of the money raised in the future to be donated to charity.” The 50-strong Grand Choir will perform Christmas Carols and Popular Songs in the candlelit church on Friday, December 9th, beginning at 7-30 p.m. Preparation and rehearsals for this event are well under way, with choir leader Olivia Mason organising a programme of very special Christmas music covering many popular numbers. As well as carols for all to sing along with, the programme of 30 songs includes a wide range from film and the musicals, together with some familiar folk and pop songs.
Tickets are selling well and can be had by ringing 01200 441624 or 01254 384893. They cost just £7 including wine, mince pies, tea and coffee. Clive added: “The Chatburn Music Events have become known for a high standard of presentation and enjoyment, with some surprises, and everyone can be assured of another very good evening and one that will bring warmth, companionship and happiness – setting the scene for the most magical time of the year.”
