Clitheroe’s Last Night of the Proms concert was blessed with bright sunshine.

In contrast to Saturday’s dark skies, Sunday was bathed in sunshine making for a wonderful setting for the annual concert at Clitheroe Castle Bandstand.

Spectators were treated to a varied programme of music by Slaidburn Silver Band and the compering skills of musical director John Cowking. The finale, a rendition of “Rule Britannia”, was sung by the band’s euphonium player, Samantha Oxborough, resulting in a rousing applause from the audience.

Mayor of Clitheroe Coun. Allan Knox said: “It was wonderful weather coupled with great spirit led with the usual gusto by Slaidburn Silver Band.”

He added that £730 had been raised for the Mayor’s Welfare Fund.
