This year’s Bowland Arts Festival, running throughout May and June, is the perfect opportunity to discover the rich seam of culture running through this beautiful area.
The Forest of Bowland is renowned for its outstanding natural beauty and breathtaking landscapes, straddling Lancashire and North Yorkshire. Its arts festival features a packed programme of creative trails and activities, performance, exhibitions, and workshops. Festival events have been organised by a host of arts organisations and venues, such as Spot On, who bring performance to local venues.
You can expect the unexpected with the New Rope String Band, discover the story of a meadow with Blaize Theatre and have musical fun with Edinburgh Fringe award winners Barbershopera.
The Arts Festival showcases Bowland’s creative talent with a host of open studios, arts trails and exhibitions. From ceramics to photography, painting and local crafts this is great opportunity to be inspired.
You can learn a new skill at one of the many creative workshops – with activities ranging from family printmaking and ceramics workshops to sketching in the woods, silk painting and architectural casting.
And the good news is that many of the events are free, while for others there is often only a small fee. You can find details and booking information, essential for most of the events, at www.bowlandarts.co.uk
Bowland Arts Festival is co-ordinated by Sue Flowers, an environmental artist, based at Green Close Studios in Lancashire, whose energy and passion has been the driving force behind the event.
Sue said: “The Bowland Arts Festival has grown from strength to strength – this year we have even more arts partners committed to programming and developing innovative arts events which highlight the importance of the environment and the very special habitats which make up the Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.” For full details of all the events and to download an events programme, visit: www.bowlandarts.co.uk
