Walkers wrapped up warm, dug out their walking boots and donned silly hats for the 20th annual Whalley Walk and Ridiculous Hat competition.

Fifty-four people and nine dogs took part in the walk on Sunday (December 28th)

Whalley resident and event organiser, Ivan Hargreaves, said a good time was had by all. He added: “The weather was glorious; bright, sunny and crisp with very little wind. As is the tradition, the walkers stopped for a well-earned drink and a rest at the Game Cock Inn, Great Harwood, before continuing back to Whalley via the Nab. As the tired but exhilarated walkers came back into Whalley, a collection was held which raised £167 for The Bethany Project. Everyone enjoyed the day.”

The Most Ridiculous Hat Competition was won jointly by Shaun and Helen Fenton, of Darwen. Shaun wore an Australian bushman-type hat with the words “Merry Christmas” in large felt letters, while Helen wore a home-made creation of snowballs and icicles.
