A FORMER pupil at St Augustine’s RC High School, Billington, has been selected as one of only 20 students to train as a professional dancer at the Northern School of Contemporary Dance.

Phoebe Douthwaite (18) has won a coveted place at the prestigious dance school after auditioning alongside hundreds of top class dancers, not only from the UK but worldwide.

She has secured a place on the three-year degree course for a BA hons in Contemporary Dance, which involves intensive training programmes and professional performance experience.

Phoebe who is currently studying Dance A-level at St Mary’s College, Blackburn, said: “My time at St Mary’s has really prepared me for this professional dance training and I am so excited about the opportunity to train for a further three years at such a prestigious Dance College.”

Her dance teacher at St Mary’s College, Elissa Best, added: “We are very proud of Phoebe. She has an exceptional talent which has been recognised by one of the very best dance colleges in the country.”
