Brabin’s Gallery, in Chipping, is exhibiting a selection of Derek Leyland’s incredibly detailed Still Life paintings for its lates exhibition, which runs throughout June.
Expaining his technique, Derek said: “I paint in oils and my subject, almost always, is Still Life. I enjoy trying to capture the way light falls on objects, revealing their form and surface texture.
“Some paintings are straightforward depictions of objects that interest me, while in other paintings I have used objects to try to express a feeling about life, death, war, religion, etc. My style is very detailed mainly because I find that way of painting most satisfying.”
Derek is holding a Preview Event at the gallery this Sunday afternoon, from 2 to 4 pm. It is open to all and provides an opportunity to meet the artist and enjoy a drink in the gallery or tea-garden.
Brabin’s Gallery is open every day from 9 am to 5 pm, admission is free. Access to the gallery is through Brabin’s Shop, on Talbot Street. More details about the shop and gallery can be found at www.brabins-chipping.co.uk or call 01995 61221.
