THE picturesque village of Downham had a starring role in a primetime BBC drama on Sunday evening.
Spine tingling The Secret of Crickley Hall, starring former Coronation Street star Suranne Jones, was filmed at various locations in and around Downham in last night’s opening episode the village pub, The Assheton Arms, featured along with the local church.
Assheton Arms landlady Joycelyn Neve was the middle of taking ov er the reins at thepub when film-makers descended on her. She said: “We have been here a year now and filming took place just as we took over. It was chaos at the time with workmen and camera crews all over the place.
“I didn’t get chance to see any of the actors but I did meet the producer. Everything was happening at once and on one occasion several deliveries failed to arrive. I panicked and was ringing round to find out where the drivers were and then I noticed outside the pub the sign said “Barnaby’s Inn’ which is the name of the pub in the drama. I saw the first episode and noticed there was a lot of action on Twitter about it.’’
