This is the moment...when the idealistic young Dr Henry Jekyll is about to take the mind-altering potion that will turn him into the murderous Edward Hyde.
Peter Norris, a new leading man with Clitheroe Parish Church A.O.D.S, takes on the demanding dual role in the society’s production of “Jekyll and Hyde – The Musical” which opens this weekend at St Mary’s Parish Centre.
Adapted from Robert Louis Stevenson’s Gothic novella by the partnership of Leslie Bricusse and Frank Wildhorn, the show is not so much the horror story portrayed in film versions, more a story of high ideals, love, loyalty and hypocrisy.
Dr Jekyll sets out to isolate and control the evil side of human nature, but when he is prevented from experimenting on his hospital patients he uses his formula on himself with tragic results.
The show’s best-known song “This Is The Moment” has become a standard.
The show’s director is Anne Grogan, with Mike Pinder musical director and Lyndsey Pollard choreographer.
Principals include Katie Cowburn, David Hulme, Laura Corney and Robin Knipe.
The show runs nightly at 7-30pm at St Mary’s Centre from this Saturday, February 15th to Saturday 22nd, excluding Sunday, with a 2-15 pm matinee on the final Saturday.
The show on Wednesday night is almost sold out.
