Secret Affair to headline at Ribble Valley Mod Weekend

Secret Affair are revving up their scooters and polishing their wing mirrors ahead of the Ribble Valley Mod Weekender, where they will provide the headlining act.

Clitheroe’s The Grand will be the focal point for the popular three-day festival, with a host of bands plus DJs playing at the York Street venue on Saturday, September 27th.

The retro line-up includes The Jam tribute band the Jam Collective plus The Shade, but Secret Affair’s first visit to the town will provide the big draw for another weekend of Mod mayhem.

Secret Affair, who rode the new wave of the Mod revival in 1979, enjoyed hits with “Let Your Heart Dance”, “My World”, “Sound of Confusion” and “Time For Action”, their debut single and biggest chart success.

“It is a real coup for the Mod Weekender having Secret Affair here, because Ian Page’s band were right at the heart of it and they are an iconic band from that era. They are a brilliant live group and they will fit the bill perfectly,” said organiser Stephen Porter.

Following the storming success of last year’s sold out Mod and Soul Weekender, Porter has set his sights on a broader themed event, with venues across Clitheroe getting involved. There will be bands and DJs playing at the Rose and Crown, the Buck Inn, Key Street, The Castle, and the White Horse, so the whole town has really embraced the festival,” he added.

“Last year was brilliant, with enthusiasts from Newcastle, Birmingham and London, and a couple flew over from Toronto, Canada, for the weekend. The scooter parade through the town brought Clitheroe to a standstill. It was great to see day trippers enjoying the event, too, and we had a lot of positive feedback.”

Previous acts have included The Lambrettas, DC Fontana and Essex boys Missing Andy. Porter added: “A festival can bring so much into a town and the Mod Weekender is getting bigger every year now. We really appreciate the whole of Clitheroe getting involved.”

The Mod Weekender runs from September 26-28th. Tickets are now available from The Grand (01200 421599) or Key Street, (01200 422588). For more information visit: www.rvnw.moonfruit.com
