Clitheroe Royal Grammar School’s Swing Band will embark on their second European tour in July, building on the great success of their trip to Malta in October 2012.
Not only did the band have a great timein Malta, and wonderful weather, but listeners enjoyed their performances, which included Mdina, Valletta and entertaining guests in their hotel.
Many people came up to congratulate the band at the time and there were appreciative postcards and emails on return.
In Budapest, the band is to play in the castle area, in the huge covered market and at the zoo. They will also be enjoying a trip up the Buda Hills and a dip in the famous thermal baths!
Because of the increasing cost of these trips, the band is putting on a fund-raising concert on Saturday June 21st in West Bradford Village Hall. It starts at 7-30pm and includes a hot supper and licensed bar.
Tickets at £10 for adults and £5 for children are available from the school offices in York Street and Chatburn Road, Clitheroe, and also at Castle Financial in Moor Lane.
The band was formed 13 years ago and has performed at a variety of venues in the Ribble Valley and beyond, many of the performances being for good causes.
The total raised for Cancer Research over the years is more than £10,000. Two recent concerts have been at The Grand and Ribble Valley Jazz and Blues.
Their musical director, Nigel Spooner, is proud of their achievements, saying: “It is a constant pleasure to witness the enjoyment and commitment of all the players. They develop quickly as musicians and people and it’s great to be able to perform in a different country and also as some sort of reward for all the work they have put in over the year.”
