Hot on the heels of the biggest and best Clitheroe Jazz Festival so far, the Ribble Valley Jazz and Blues Club presents it next regular monthly gig on Friday June 6th.
It will feature the Sowto Kinch Trio. Award winning alto-saxophonist and MC Soweto Kinch is one of the most exciting and versatile young musicians in both the British jazz and hip hop scenes.
Undoubtedly one of the few artists in either genre with a degree in Modern History from Oxford University, he has amassed an impressive list of accolades and awards on both sides of the Atlantic – including a Mercury Music Prize nomination, two UMA Awards and a MOBO for best Jazz Act in 2003.
In October 2007, he won his second MOBO Award, at the O2 Arena, London where he was announced as the winner in the Best Jazz Act category – fending off stiff competition from the likes of Wynton Marsalis.
The Clitheroe gig takes place at the club’s usual venue, the Atrium Café Bar at Clitheroe Castle, which has a licensed bar, food available and ample parking. The gig starts at 8 pm and tickets are £12 on the door, with a £2 discount for members and half-price for students and under-16s
The next club gig will feature The Weave on Friday July 11th. For more about the club, including forthcoming goigs and other events, see: www.rvjazzandblues.co.uk
