CHAMPAGNE corks have been popping at a Whalley pub after it won a top award.
The Swan Hotel, in King Street, has been crowned one of the first pubs in the country to win a new award for quality beer.
Licensees Gary and Louise Clough were presented with their distinctive Beautiful Beer plaque by local councillor Joyce Holgate.
They said: "We pride ourselves on the quality of our beer at The Swan Hotel, so it's great to achieve this recognition. The Beautiful Beer plaque on the wall tells customers that when they order a beer here, they can be guaranteed it's a great one."
The Gold Award recognises pubs which serve great quality beer – draught and bottled. Inspectors carried out a thorough audit of the pub, from the storage of beer in the cellar to the pouring of the beer behind the bar. To pass the inspection, pubs have to score 85 out of 100 points – The Swan Hotel scored 95!
