AN enterprising Ribble Valley chef and landlord is uncorking a passion for fine wines to accompany his delicious dishes.
Michael Heathcote is the chef proprietor at The Duke of York, in Grindleton, where his regular "Wine Club Dinners" are attracting a growing following.
The idea of the events is to introduce participants to different types of wine, learning about their individual characteristics and how they can be perfectly matched to complement particualar dishes.
Guests at the most recent Wine Club Dinner discovered the joys of Muscadet. Their evening began with canapés and aperitifs in the garden, followed by a four course dinner specially created by chef Michael, each dish paired with wines supplied by Roger Barlow, of Gerrard Seel & Co.
Another special guest was winemaker Amelie Couillaud, of Les Frères Couillaud, in the Muscadet area of France, who imparted expert knowledge as guests enjoyed her wines. Other wines form the Loire region of France were also enjoyed during the evening.
Michael's Wine Club Dinners are held bi-monthly at The Duke of York and provide an opportunity to taste some excellent wines and fantastic food whilst making friends along the way.
