A LONG-SERVING Sabden headteacher is retiring this summer.
Mrs Sandra Dundon is retiring from Sabden Primary School in July after 14 years at the school and 38 years in the teaching profession.

Born in Dunsop Bridge, Mrs Dundon (59) moved to Clitheroe as a child and attended Clitheroe Royal Grammar School before heading to Birmingham for her teacher training.

She married her husband Michael, originally from Nelson, and the two moved to Burnley, where they have lived for 36 years. They have two sons, one in Darwen and one in Australia, and two grandchildren.

Mrs Dundon has taught all over Lancashire, including 13 years at the former Burnley Wood Primary School, Marsden Primary School in Nelson, Feniscowles Primary School in Blackburn and Trawden Primary, before joining Sabden in 1994.

After her retirement, Mrs Dundon plans to travel to Australia to see her six-year-old grandchildren, who live in Canberra, and also wants to fit in more travelling. Other hobbies include reading, walking and visiting old friends.

She said: "I am looking forward to doing all these things, but I will miss the children because they are what makes the job so interesting and rewarding. I have also worked with some wonderful members of staff, both teaching and non-teaching, and I will miss those professional relationships.

"The community in and around Sabden has also been very supportive of the school and I am very fortunate to have worked here."
