A GISBURN man went through a Clitheroe shop window during drunken "messing about" with a friend.
Blackburn magistrates heard Charles Edward Kempsey (23) needed 21 stitches in his arm after the late-night incident and DNA from blood left behind led police to arrest him.

Kempsey, of Main Street, admitted causing £150-worth of damage to the window of Clitheroe Collectables, in Duck Street. He was given a conditional discharge for 12 months and ordered to pay £150 in compensation and £60 toward prosecution costs.

Kempsey told the court he had been drinking with a friend and they were in high spirits. "There was no malicious intent, we were just larking around," said Kempsey. "It's not acceptable behaviour to go round damaging people's property whether you mean it or not."
